A collection of plans for the classic wooden boats plans- the models vary in size but I prefer to work on models that are about 1m in length or larger so the majority of plans here are for the larger models. Most of the model plan sets are free, others are for sale. The cost is kept low so that everyone can have a chance to build the models - some lesser quality plans are for sale on the web for 10 times the price. Again the low price does not affect the quality of the plans.
I have also included a section on RC Hardware with Wiring Diagrams for basic RC Boat and Ship layouts. By John Tomlinson

2 Large Format sheets on 2A0 sized sheets in Adobe PDF Vector format
Instructions for printing Large Format Paper Sizes with Adobe PDF software -
Set paper size in the print options in the Adobe print menu - ensure paper size setting is correct. (the preview in the ADOBE software will show this)
The plans are large sheets 2A0 in sheet size - the large sheets that are best printed at a print shop such as Kinko's or similar high street printers.
Regardless of were the plans are printed, the following settings from the Adobe "Print" menu options are needed to print out full size:
Ensure paper size setting is correct - 2A0 in this case
Please ensure that the "Page Scaling" setting in the Adobe software Print Options is set to "None"
Do not use the "Fit to Page" option.
You can use the "Tile Large Pages" to print full scale on A3 or A4 paper joined together if you have the Adobe Pro software or the free Adobe Reader 10.

RC Boat Motors - The electric motors used in RC boats can be Brushed or Brushless motors
Each type of motor used with the Radio Control gear requires a specific design of Speed Controller.
Brushless Speed Controller
Brushed Speed Controller
The Speed Controllers above have a water cooled Heat Sink to prevent the RC Speed Controller overheating.
You will notice that the Brushless Speed Controllers and Brushless Motors have three wires to supply the power to the motor. The speed controller converts the DC battery power into a kind of 3 phase AC voltage to run the motor. The speed is controlled by varying the frequency of the of the AC.
The Brushed Speed Controller and Motor use the conventional Plus and Minus leads to run the motor and the electronic speed controlled basically switches the power on and off at a high speed to control the power to the motor.
The design of Brushless motors allows a Water Jacket type of heat sink to be used to remove the heat from the electric motor while under load.
The water is fed from forward facing inlet on the hull which forces the water into the jacket and out through a drain - this is the most efficient way to cool you RC Boat motor.

The Wiring Diagrams are for a typical layout on a Radio Controlled boat or Ship - The differences between the Brushed Motor Wiring Diagram and the Brushless Motor Wiring Diagram are easily seen by clicking on the diagrams above to enlarge the Picture
The Battery Connection, Power Switch, Radio Receiver and Rudder Servo connection are also shown on the RC Ship Wiring Diagrams - Click on the thumbnails to download the full sized wiring diagrams.
